A Kitchen Reinvented: Comfort, Function & Style
This kitchen renovation was more than just a facelift — it was a full-scale transformation from the inside out. During demo, we uncovered a common challenge in older homes: no insulation behind the cabinets along the brick exterior wall. We seized the opportunity to make this space not only beautiful but energy-efficient and comfortable year-round.
As we moved into phase two, we brought in our trusted, state-licensed electrician and plumber to upgrade functionality behind the scenes. Dedicated circuits, new outlets, and ice maker lines were seamlessly integrated to support the modern appliances this kitchen now holds.
Before laying tile, we ensured a rock-solid foundation with precise subfloor prep — a critical step for the stunning 1’x2′ subway tiles chosen by the homeowner.
Final touches included venting the microwave through the roof, bringing all electrical up to code, and adjusting HVAC components for better appliance placement and airflow. And, of course, no kitchen transformation is complete without a little design magic — a striking blue and white backsplash now ties the whole space together.
From structural upgrades to the finishing details, this renovation blends craftsmanship, comfort, and clean design to create a kitchen that’s built to last.

DURING- MietzKitchen Water
If pipes in exterior walls aren’t properly insulated, they can freeze and crack, flooding the home. We took the opportunity in the middle of this kitchen renovation to add insulation into the walls, before drywall and cabinets are installed.
DURING- MietzKitchen Studs
What’s missing? When we removed the original kitchen cabinets, we discovered that there was no insulation in the walls. We took advantage of the exposed framing to add insulation before rebuilding the walls and new cabinets were installed.
DURING- MietzKitchen Insulation
Sometimes make surprising discoveries when we do demolition. After we removed the cabinets, we discovered there was NO insulation in the walls of this brick home. By adding insulation during this kitchen renovation, we made the space more comfortable and improved the energy efficiency.
DURING- MietzKitchen Flooring
After we removed the existing flooring, we discovered deteriorated plywood and shredded underlayment on the kitchen’s subfloor. Luckily, we repurposed plywood sheets from another part of this project to repair the subfloor without additional materials costs.
